Crossguard tsuba, Kaneie, school craftsman author. Oval tsuba for a short tantô sword, with an irregularly outlined, wavy uchi kaeshi-type edge and a textured surface, decorated on both sides with a landscape motif. On the obverse: a fisherman on the shore, piled rocks and a hut under a pine tree; on the reverse: a sketchy landscape motif. Details vegetation accentuated with gold inlay, fisherman's head inlaid with shakudô. Signed. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan; Fushimi, Yamashiro. Materials/function: tsuba sword crossguard. Dimensions: height 5.7 cm, width 5.2 cm, depth 0.35 cm., A round, flat metal object with a weathered, rusty brown surface floats against a uniform gray background; the object has a few irregular cutouts and a few small spots of gold-colored flecks on its surface, with uneven, slightly rough edges and variations of darker and lighter brown tones.
