Platter, ceramics, colored porcelain, Chinese, Qing dynasty Tongzhi, 1862–1874. In the mirror, the Taoist sign Taiji appears as two stylized birds intertwined, surrounded by the symbols of the Eight Immortals and their corresponding trigrams. The outer rim is decorated with Buddhist symbols. Vessel; height 5.8 cm, diameter 24.5 cm., A low, shallow ceramic dish with an octagonal rim sits on a short octagonal foot; the dish is predominantly pale light green or celadon with painted decorative motifs in blue, red, green, yellow, and gold along its sides and inner rim, including floral and ribbon-like designs and a repeating geometric border inside; the exterior rim has a worn gold trim, and the foot shows green leaf-like patterns and a band of darker green on a white ground; the piece rests on a reflective grey surface against a plain light grey background.
