Platter, ceramics, colored porcelain, Qing dynasty Tongzhi period, 1862–1874, Chinese, diameter 24.5 cm, height 5.8 cm. In the mirror, the Taoist sign Taiji appears as two stylized intertwined birds, surrounded by the Eight Immortals and their corresponding trigrams. The outer rim is decorated with Buddhist symbols. Vessel., A shallow, footed porcelain dish with a pale greenish-white body sits against a neutral gray background; the dish has a gently flared rim with a gold-colored edge and a decorative red patterned band inside the rim, and the exterior shows a few painted motifs in red, yellow, blue, purple, and green, including a central circular motif with flowing ribbon-like elements and additional stylized designs on either side; the foot is decorated with green foliate and wave-like patterns and the dish casts a soft reflection on the surface beneath it.
