Deity of Longevity Shouxing/Shoulao holds a long traveling staff and a peach of immortality. His robe is decorated with cloud motifs, lingzhi mushrooms, and cranes in medallions. At his feet stand a servant holding a vessel, a deer, and a crane. Peaches, figurines, cranes, and other animals feature in the iconography. Sculptural work in Chinese art style, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century, height 54.2 cm., A tall carved figure rendered in dark brown and deep reddish-brown tones stands on a sculpted base of swirling forms, with carved drapery and textured patterns on the clothing, a long beard, and a hand holding a tall, twisted staff; a smaller carved figure and an animal-like figure are positioned near the base, and the whole piece shows polished highlights and darker recesses against a plain light gray background.
