Crossguard tsuba, Kikuchi Tsunekatsu 1704-? maker; Tsuba in the shape of a mokkô quatrefoil with seppa dai oval. Decorated on both sides with a high-relief image of a dragon among rough waves; creature's claws and horns inlaid with gold using the nunome technique; tiny gold dots illuminate the waves. Signed. 1st half of the 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Materials: metal with gold inlay. Dimensions: height 7.9 cm, width 7.1 cm, depth 0.4 cm. Subjects: sword crossguard, katana, dragons, sea waves., A round, ornate metal object with carved, swirling raised patterns and rounded studs, showing a dark brown and rust color overall with small areas of gold-colored accents; it has an oval central opening and two elongated slots, and the background is a smooth light gray.
