Dark brown, porous wheel-thrown clay; light brown glaze with rough air bubble cracks; applied handles. 19th century Edo/Meiji period, Owari, Japan. Height 6.3 cm; diameter 5 cm., A rounded ceramic jar with a short neck and two small stubs at the shoulder sits centered against a plain gray background, the jar showing a mottled brown surface with darker brown speckles and patches and a rougher, darker brown area near the base; a smooth, pale cream lid with a small knob rests on top, and the jar casts a soft reflection on the glossy surface beneath it.
