Wan-nari type tea bowl wan-nari chawan, Japanese, Edo 1603–1868, 18th–19th century. Stoneware vessel on a low, round foot; rough surface; partly glazed with white milky and grey-bluish glaze with numerous spots and drips, gold lacquer veins. Fillings and gluing made with gold lacquer. Height 8.4 cm; diameter 13.5 cm., A ceramic bowl sits on a smooth surface against a neutral backdrop, showing an irregular, rounded shape with a slightly flared rim and a narrow foot; the bowl’s exterior and interior surfaces display a weathered texture with mottled patches and speckled markings. The visible colors include muted beige and cream on the exterior, pale blue-gray inside, brown and rusty tones around the rim and base, and a metallic gold filling along repaired cracks. The bowl’s surface shows horizontal striations and areas where glaze appears thin or worn, and the gold repairs create shiny, smooth lines contrasting with the rougher, matte clay. The neutral background is a soft gray, and a faint reflection of the bowl appears on the surface beneath it.
