Crossguard tsuba, Kikuoka Masayoshi; Kikuoka school. Oval tsuba tatemaru gata with a rectangular edge kaku mimi, katahitsu ana, oval seppa dai. Decorated in high relief using the iro-e takazôgan technique inlaying with multicolored metals on a grained nanako background. Obverse: two karashishi Chinese lions by a rock; reverse: a waterfall flowing among rocks. Signature on the reverse. Japan, Edo period, 1st half of the 19th century. Materials: metal; function: sword crossguard tsuba. Dimensions: height 6.8 cm, width 6.3 cm, depth 0.3 cm., A round metal object with an oval cutout and a vertical triangular opening, shown against a gray background. The surface is textured with a pattern of small raised dots and has a warm brown and dark bronze patina. Along the lower edge there is a raised decorative scene with flowing carved forms, including curved elements and a flowing band that resembles a cascade, with small accents of brighter gold-colored highlights. A smooth, slightly lighter-toned central area surrounds the vertical triangular opening.
