Crossguard tsuba, Edo period 18th century, 1603–1868, Japan. Oval tatemaru gata tsuba with an irregular edge and a surface textured to imitate rock, cut into openwork irregular elongated holes. Inlaid in high relief with a motif of a blooming rose bush, a snail, and flying bats. Signed in flat gold inlay: italic character ju naga. Dimensions: height 8.0 cm, width 7.5 cm, depth 0.5 cm., A round dark brown metal object with an irregular textured surface and several rough holes, decorated with a few gold floral motifs and leaves near the top and right edge, two smooth dark gray oval insets near the center, a narrow vertical triangular opening in the middle, a small gold spiral shape near the lower left, and a few small dark gray raised details on the right side; visible colors include dark brown, gold, dark gray, and gray.
