Cup, Persian, Qajar dynasty 1785–1925, 19th century; vessel, height 25.5 cm, diameter 18.4 cm. Decoration: cartouches with a bust of a man, animals lions, birds, figures, figurative motifs, flowers, geometric and small plant ornament., A decorated metal goblet with a flared bowl and a flared foot standing on a shallow circular base, covered in ornate relief figures and vegetal patterns. The surface shows gilded raised figures of animals and humanlike faces set against painted backgrounds in blue, green, and red, with areas of white and black geometric bands. The upper bowl has a band of blue background with gilded animals and a central gilded humanlike portrait surrounded by painted accents, the midsection features a greenish background with gilded animals and floral motifs, and a band of red and white painted decoration separates the bowl from the stem. The stem has alternating bands including a gilded ribbed section and a black and white patterned band, while the foot is decorated with gilded animal figures on a blue painted foliate background and bordered by black and white patterned edges. The overall colors visible are gold, blue, green, red, white, black, and natural metallic tones.
