Crossguard tsuba, Ichiryûsai Masamitsu; Shôami school. Oval tsuba tatemaru gata decorated in high relief with colored metals iro-e zôgan: one side shows a stream winding among grasses and dandelions; the other depicts a buffalo and a she-buffalo grazing in a flowery meadow. Edo period, 1st half of the 19th century Japan. Materials: metals with colored inlay. Dimensions: height 7.6 cm, width 7.6 cm, depth 0.4 cm., A round, dark brown metal disc with a smooth matte surface and a central elongated cutout flanked by two oval cutouts, showing areas of subtle rust and wear. Near the lower edge there is a winding engraved line suggesting a stream, decorated with a few small gold-colored leaf or grass motifs and several gold-colored floral or plant elements. The metal around the central cutout shows lighter worn patches in a beige tone, and there are faint darker and lighter variations across the surface. The visible colors are dark brown, gold, beige, and gray.
