Jug, late 19th century, Northern India, / Iran, — silver, height 43 cm, weight 1795 g. A tall silver jug with a pear-shaped body and tall conical neck that tapers upward into a wide spout. The entire vessel is richly chased with plant motifs — leaves, tendrils, twigs, carnations and other flowers. On one side of the belly is a blank shield. The handle is ornamented with spotted animals with large ears and open mouths. A hinge at the upper edge of the handle indicates the vessel originally had a lid., A tall ornate metal pitcher stands against a plain light gray background; the pitcher is covered in dense raised floral and leaf patterns with textured surfaces and has a curved handle topped with an animal-like figure and a decorative spout area. The object appears in silver-gray tones with areas of darker gray shadowing and subtle highlights, and there is a smooth shield-shaped blank panel on one side that contrasts with the intricate decoration. Overall the visible colors are silver-gray, darker gray, and light gray.
