Jug aftabe, unknown provenance; Islamic art; jug used for water aftabe; 19th century; North Caucasus; vessel; height 30.0 cm, length 14.8 cm, diameter 12.0 cm, A metal vessel with a tall narrow neck, a curved spout, and a looped handle topped by a hinged lid, all showing a worn, textured surface. The body of the vessel is bulbous above a flared pedestal base with horizontal ridges where the body meets the stem. Vertical incised grooves decorate the rounded midsection, and concentric incised bands appear near the shoulder. The hinged lid sits open and is circular with a domed top. The spout is slightly curved and tapers toward its opening. The surface displays a mottled, aged appearance with visible areas of abrasion and patina. The visible colors are shades of gray, silver, off-white, and touches of muted brown or rust. The background is a smooth, light gray.
