Ganesha, Indian, 19th century. Sculpture, height 26.0 cm, width 17.5 cm. The deity sits on a double lotus throne placed on a rectangular flat base; the whole is mounted on a large, strongly profiled pedestal. At the back of the figure is a circle of fire. The figurine consists of three parts: a statuette inserted onto a pedestal and a fire ring inserted into the pedestal holes using two pins. Iconography/subjects: Indian art, Hindu art, Hinduism, Shaivism; elephants, tusks, mounts, crowns/tiaras, halos, lotus throne, ropes, birds, rats, fire, armor, gluttony., A sculptural figure sits within an ornate circular frame mounted on a stepped rectangular base; the figure appears carved with multiple arms and an elephant-like head and rests on a decorated pedestal, all rendered in a dark brown tone, while the circular frame, ornamental flame-like motifs around it, and the stepped base are gilded in a bright gold color.
