Crossguard tsuba, Round tsuba maru gata in the Chinese Cantonese style with a distinct finely fluted gilded edge and a narrow border with a stylized, delicately engraved plant twig. Seppa dai: silver, round, decorated with an engraved horizontal stripe motif of stylized groups of trees. The shield's decoration is openwork, in the shape of a braid with four cross-shaped rectangles bearing ideograms in the style of seal script. Not signed. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Tsuba; diameter 7.6 cm; thickness 0.5 cm., A round metal object with a central vertical opening flanked by two rounded openings, featuring an open lattice pattern in the surrounding ring and a textured outer rim; the metal shows shades of dark brown and black with areas of worn gold color and some silvery gray on the central panel, and the background is a flat medium gray.
