Censer, Persian Iran, Qajar dynasty 1785–1925, 18th/19th century. Bronze censer, height 33.0 cm, diameter 22.0 cm. Decoration: figurative scenes including hunting, human figures, animals, demons in cartouches; dense arabesque background with plant motifs, fantastic creatures dragons, beasts, fantasy scenes, acrobatics, riders., An ornate metal vessel with a domed lid and a pointed finial sits on a flared pedestal base; the surface shows intricate openwork and engraved circular medallions arranged around the dome and body, with repeating floral and geometric patterns and pierced lattice details. The object appears metallic with dark brown and aged brass tones, with subtle variations showing darker patina and lighter golden highlights on raised edges. The overall shape is bulbous at the midsection with a stepped band near the lid, and the pedestal narrows then flares to a wide foot decorated with similar filigree and engraved motifs. The background is a plain light gray.
