Crossguard tsuba by Takahashi Ietsugu fl. ca. 1830–1880. Rectangular-with-rounded-sides tsuba sumi iri mokkô gata with slight corner indentations and a slightly raised edge uchi kaeshi. Two-tone shield crossguard: obverse of shakudo, reverse of shibuichi. Decorated in high relief with inlay and engraving—obverse shows a blossoming cherry tree on the seashore and a distant mountain peak among clouds; reverse depicts two swimming ducks and cherry blossom petals falling onto the water. Signed Takahashi Ietsugu sei. 1st half of the 19th century Edo period, Japan. Tsuba; height 7 cm, width 6 cm, depth 0.5 cm., A flat, rounded rectangular object with a smooth dark brown surface sits against a light gray background, showing a narrow oval opening near its center and a few small gold-colored decorative accents and a gold-colored tiny sculpted shape on one side, along with some fine dark engraved lines and a small silver-colored accent near the gold shape.
