Crossguard tsuba, Umetada school; maker: Umetada Shigeyoshi. Oval tsuba tatemaru gata with a slightly rounded and raised edge of the uchi kaeshi type and an oval seppa dai. Decorated on both sides with a relief motif of Chinese coins, details highlighted with gold inlay using the nunome zôgan technique. 1st half of the 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Material: metal tsuba. Dimensions: height 8.7 cm, width 7.9 cm, depth 0.3 cm., A round, dark brown metal object with a textured surface and an irregular central cutout flanked by two oval openings; the rim is slightly raised and scalloped in places, and there is a partial circular inlay with a metallic gold color near one edge. The surface shows engraved and raised shapes including a tag-like form and a rounded medallion shape, both in the same dark brown metal with areas of lighter brown and a small amount of metallic silver visible on the medallion edge. The background is a smooth gray.
