Crossguard tsuba by Nakai Tomotsune II. Early 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868. Japan — Nagato province, Hagi. Round tsuba with oval seppa-dai; hitsu- and kogai of identical shape. Decorated with positive openwork depicting swallows among willow branches. Small gold spots nunome technique on the branches. Rectangular edge kaku mimi. Signed. Diameter 8.3 cm; thickness 0.4 cm., A round dark brown metal disk with an openwork design, featuring an oval central plate with a vertical cutout and two rounded side openings; the openwork shows a group of stylized birds perched among winding branches and elongated leaves, with small areas of gold-colored spotting on parts of the branches; the metal surface has a weathered, slightly textured appearance, and the background is a pale gray.
