Sage, unknown sculptor, figurine of a bonza priest, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century, stone sculpture, height 10.4 cm, width 6.9 cm, depth 5.0 cm; associated names: Choynowski, Józef 1833–ca.1915 and Dawidow, Alexander Petrovich 1838–1885., A small carved figurine of a seated elderly man with a long beard shown against a gradient gray background, the figure appearing in warm tones of beige, tan, and light brown with subtle variations and speckles, wearing draped robes and sitting cross-legged on a rounded base, one hand resting on his knee and the other raised with fingers curled, facial features and beard carved in modest detail, the surface showing slight mottling and a soft matte finish.
