Red-figure aryballos lekythos, unknown Campanian workshop. A squat lekythos with a ring-shaped foot. Belly broad, spherical and flattened; shoulders rounded and broad. Narrow, low neck as high as the rim; cup-shaped rim. Ribbon-shaped vertical handle. Front decorated with a bar ornament at the base of the neck. Belly and arms depict a seated woman facing left: legs in profile left extended, right withdrawn, hips three-quarter en face, arms frontally, head in left profile. Left arm wrapped around a himation, hand resting on the hip; right hand outstretched above a tossed circular object of two light-colored parts ball or skein of wool?, each with a single black dot, separated by a dark stripe. Hair combed back and tied in a bun. Woman wears a necklace and earrings of spherical beads indicated by dots. Sides bear a motif of vertically unwinding plant tendrils with spirally coiled ends. Reddish clay; turning lines visible. Neck diagonally cracked and glued; rim chipped. 2nd half of the 4th century BC, Campania. Vessel aryballos/lekythos. Height 10.8 cm; diameter 8.1 cm., A rounded ceramic vessel with a single curved handle and a flared neck sits against a neutral gray background; its surface shows a dark black slip with areas of worn orange-brown clay exposed, and a few decorative curving motifs in the orange-brown tone on one side; the rim and handle show signs of wear and chips, and the base is slightly raised and scuffed with traces of lighter clay and residue.
