Terracotta gladiator figurine, unknown Southern Italian workshop, terracotta, male figurines. Figure of a gladiator ready for battle on a high base. Legs wide apart, left leg bent, right leg straight. On the calves are greaves reaching above the knees. In his right, bent hand he holds a dagger, and in the other a four-sided shield. He is dressed in a short draped tunic and wears a helmet. The Latin inscription PACILI is visible on the reverse of the base. Preservation condition: part of the base filled with plaster, partial shield and back of the head broken off, reflections, cracks. Date: 2nd–1st century BC, Southern Italy. Figurine, height 13 cm, width 7 cm., A weathered, pale beige stone figurine of a seated person wearing a hooded garment is shown against a neutral gray background; the figure has softened, eroded facial features and simplified limbs, with a draped cloak that creates folds and rounded forms, and a rough, blocky base that the figure merges into. The object displays patches of lighter and darker beige and off-white, with small areas of subtle grayish and brownish discoloration. The overall surface appears matte and uneven with visible chips and worn edges, and there is a hollowed, concave area on one side of the figure that shows a coarser interior texture. The background is solid medium gray and the figure casts a faint reflection on the glossy surface beneath it.
