Terracotta gladiator figurine, unknown Southern Italian workshop; terracotta male figurine. Figure of a gladiator ready for battle on a high base. Legs wide apart, left leg bent, right leg straight. On the calves are greaves reaching above the knees. In his right, bent hand he holds a dagger, and in the other a four-sided shield. He is dressed in a short draped tunic and wears a helmet. The Latin inscription PACILI is visible on the reverse of the base. Preservation condition: part of the base filled with plaster, partial shield and back of the head broken off, reflections, cracks. Date: 2nd–1st century BC, Southern Italy. Height 13 cm, width 7 cm., A worn pale beige sculpted torso on a neutral gray background, showing the upper body and partial neck with a hollowed head area and ragged edges where arms would be, surface texture varying between smoother and rougher patches with some darker beige and light brown discoloration, and a few small chips and cracks visible along the shoulders and chest.
