Black-finished askos, unknown Campanian workshop, black-finished pottery, askos, Campania Italy, Askos with a profiled foot and a semicircular body closed at the top with a slightly recessed surface. Narrow neck ending in a wide rim. Ribbon-shaped handle attached to the neck and to the upper surface of the vessel. Appliqué with a female head glued to the upper surface of the vessel. The head depicted is probably Medusa, surrounded by a wreath of intertwined snakes. The finish is black, shiny, worn in places, particularly on the handle and the edge of the rim. Light orange clay. Handle and neck cracked and glued. Mid 3rd century BCE, Campania, vessel., A black rounded ceramic vessel with a single curved handle arching over the top and a short flared spout, showing worn areas with small patches of lighter color and surface scratches, sitting against a plain gray background.
