Black-finished askos, unknown Campanian workshop, repossession Silesia, black-finished pottery, askos, Campania Italy. Askos with a profiled foot and a semicircular body closed at the top with a slightly recessed surface. Narrow neck ending in a wide rim. Ribbon-shaped handle attached to the neck and to the upper surface of the vessel. Appliqué with a female head glued to the upper surface of the vessel, probably Medusa, surrounded by a wreath of intertwined snakes. Finish is black, shiny, worn in places, particularly on the handle and the edge of the rim. Light orange clay. Handle and neck cracked and glued. Mid 3rd century BC, Campania, vessel., A black ceramic vessel with a rounded body, a short pedestal base, and a wide flat rim connected to the body by a tall, flaring neck; a curved handle arches from one side of the rim to the opposite shoulder. The surface shows areas of wear where the black coating is chipped, revealing lighter clay beneath, and there are small scratches and scuffs across the vessel. The background is a uniform gray, and the vessel casts a faint reflection on the glossy surface beneath it. The visible colors are black, gray, and the lighter beige of exposed clay.
