Black-finished askos, unknown Campanian workshop, black-finished pottery, askos, Campania Italy. Askos with a profiled foot and a semicircular body closed at the top with a slightly recessed surface. Narrow neck ending in a wide rim. Ribbon-shaped handle attached to the neck and to the upper surface of the vessel. Appliqué with a female head on the upper surface, probably Medusa, surrounded by a wreath of intertwined snakes. Finish is black, shiny, worn in places, particularly on the handle and the rim edge. Light orange clay. Handle and neck cracked and glued. Mid 3rd century BC., A black rounded ceramic vessel with a short neck and a flat, T-shaped rim sits centered against a neutral gray background; the surface shows worn areas with small chips and lighter scratches revealing a tan or brownish underlayer, and the base rim has patches of lighter wear.
