Canopy altar by a Gdansk painter, canopy altars depicting Mary mother of Jesus Christ, Gdansk Pomeranian Voivodeship, medieval art; Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Gdansk; Sródmiescie. Carved depictions in the body; canopy central part with plinth; four wings painted on one side — inner wings narrower, with wider outer wings attached. Each wing divided horizontally into two quarters, enclosed in a painted frame of a narrow red band decorated with schematic flowers. The figure of the Madonna currently placed in the altar does not come from this altar. Colours: Vestments — predominance of light colours; reds in cool shades, light blue, olive green modeled with yellow, white, pink broken with purple. Flesh complexions modeled with warm pink and brown. Architecture in pink and white with accents of red and blue; green ground stripe. Haloes, robes' frames, crowns — gold. Gold background, plain. Red frames with gilded, rosettes. Dated ca. 1430 scholarly datings range ca. 1410–after 1420, many specifying ca. 1425. Origin: Gdansk. Wing altar; height 139.7 cm, width 162 cm., A painted wooden triptych with hinged side panels displayed open, featuring a central tall gold background panel with a dark vertical worn area and a wooden base with carved latticework in front; the side panels have red frames and contain religious-style painted scenes with figures wearing robes and crowns, halos, and holding objects, depicted in a palette of gold, red, green, blue, white, and brown, with some flesh-toned faces and hands, and small architectural elements and drapery details in muted tones.
