Icon: Crucifixion of Christ on Golgotha, Old Believers workshop. In the center a recessed eight-pointed wooden cross depicts Christ stretched out. Above are God the Father and the dove of the Holy Spirit. To the left of the cross: Mary, the mother of Christ, and two women; to the right: St. John and the centurion Longinus. Behind them are the two thieves on crosses. In the upper part angels in the clouds turn toward the Crucified One, with cloth covering their hands. Background shows the symbolic walls of Jerusalem and a view of the city. Colors are rich, contrasting, and realistic; a striking dark blue sky. Inscriptions in white paint are visible in the upper corners; an identifying inscription in vermilion is placed in the upper field. 18th century, Wietka workshop; icon; height 49.5 cm, width 44.3 cm., A painted panel showing a central crucifix with a body on the cross, outlined by a bold border, set against a dark blue background within a rectangular frame; on the left side of the cross a group of women wearing long robes and head coverings in shades of red, pink, green, and blue stand together with golden halos, and on the right side two men in long robes and cloaks in red, yellow, and brown stand with halos and one holds a staff; above the cross two angelic figures with wings in pink and gold appear on either side and a small medallion-like image sits at the top center, while at the foot of the cross a grassy green mound appears with darker foliage; the entire scene is bordered by broad bands in dark olive green and red with thin gold edging.
