Triptych: Deesis with Saints Zosima and Savvatiy Solovetsky, Unknown Pomeranian Old Believers workshop probably. Deesis iconography with monks, John the Baptist, the Virgin Mary, Nicholas of Myra, Philip Metropolitan of Moscow, John the Theologian/John the Evangelist, Zosima Solovetsky, Savvatiy Solovetsky, Guardian Angel, instruments of the Passion, books, scrolls and inscriptions. Center: full-figure enthroned Christ with the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist addressing Him in prayer. Side wings: Metropolitan Philip of Moscow, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, John the Theologian left; Guardian Angel with sword and cross, Zosima and Savvatiy Solovetsky right. Reverse: round medallion with eight-pointed cross on Golgotha. Relief executed with high precision but slight simplifications in facial features ascetic faces with broad noses and rounded eyes. Presence of the Guardian Angel is typical of Old Believer triptychs; inclusion of the Solovetsky founders indicates a northern Pomorian origin. 1st half of the 19th century, Northern Russia. Icon, triptych; height 6.3 cm, width 17.6 cm., A three-panel hinged object with a metallic gold surface, each panel featuring raised, sculpted human figures with halos and draped garments; the central panel shows a seated central figure flanked by two standing figures, the left and right panels each show groups of standing figures facing inward toward the center; the figures have detailed robes, beards on some, and gestures suggesting holding or presenting objects; the hinge elements between panels and at the top are visible; the background and frame of each panel share the same gold color while the overall scene is set against a plain light gray backdrop.
