Black-finned skyphos, early 4th century BC, Attica. Thick-walled skyphos with two handles, deep bowl on a low profiled foot. Interior: stamped ornament with six palmettes; inside the circle two concentric circles with ovules between them; surrounded by a band of ovules between two engraved lines. Outer part of the foot decorated with concentric circular elements. Technology: evenly distributed varnish, matte, visible turning marks; admixtures: mica, pyroxene. Clay color 2.5 YR 6/6 light red. Varnish color 10 YR 2/1 black. Vessel skyphos. Dimensions: height 10.4 cm; width 23.5 cm; depth 16.6 cm; weight 0.456 kg; foot diameter 8.2 cm., A shallow, wide bowl with a rounded base and a short pedestal stands centered in the image, finished in a glossy black with small areas of surface wear revealing a lighter color beneath; the bowl has a broad rim and a pair of sweeping, curved handles extending outward and upward from opposite sides, each handle sharing the same black finish and exhibiting a few scuffed spots; the background is a smooth light gray and the surface beneath the pedestal is a slightly darker gray, with even, soft lighting highlighting the bowl’s contours and subtle surface imperfections.
