Askos., Cyprus, 1900–1650 BC. Cypriot White Painted Ware III–IV. Terracotta reddish clay with creamy engobe, painted in matte reddish-brown. Vessel askos, height 6 cm, diameter 9.5 cm. Askos with a slightly concave bottom. Lower part of body spherical, separated from upper by a distinct sharp edge, from which protrude four small projections each with a small hole. Upper surface gently rounded; central ring-shaped boss mounted along axis of neck. Cylindrical neck with asymmetrically mounted projecting spouts with holes on both sides, analogous to those on edge of body. Rim very slightly flared. Decoration: neck surrounded by lines; upper surface shows a mesh between the arms of a Greek cross formed by two lines with a wavy line between them; the boss is painted. Below the edge of the body a wavy line bordered below by a straight line. Surface worn., A rounded, flat object with a short cylindrical spout projecting from one side and a small raised knob on the top surface, showing a coarse, weathered texture and subtle linear and grid-like incised patterns; the surface colors include shades of beige, tan, brown, gray, and hints of reddish-brown, and the object has small perforations near its rim and irregular worn edges against a uniform gray background.
