New Year's canteen. Flat round faience canteen with a narrow short neck ending in a chipped spout shaped like a papyrus capital. Both sides decorated with modeled figurines of crouching baboons elbows on knees, paws supporting the muzzle. A floral necklace in relief decorates both sides of the neck, and a hieroglyphic text runs along the narrow sides. Materials: faience. Function: vessel. Dimensions: height 17.5 cm +1.5 cm base, width 13.7 cm, weight 0.37 kg. Date: 664–525 BC, Late Period, 26th Dynasty, Egypt. Makers: unknown., A round, flattened vessel with a narrow flared neck and a wide rim sits against a plain gray background, the vessel showing a greenish-blue patina with areas of darker green and subtle brown spots; a decorative band of incised geometric patterns arcs below the neck, and two small sculpted figures flank the neck where it meets the body; the object rests on a clear support with a small vertical element visible at the base.
