Background c. cherry. Binding: profiled oval ivory border. Label with stamped number on the reverse: 47 and p. 56. Miniature, height 8.9 cm, width 6.8 cm; dated c. 1650. Purchased for 150 marks in 1918., An oval frame in an off-white or cream color with slight discoloration surrounds an oval portrait; a loop of brown twine is attached at the top. Inside the frame, a painted bust of a person is visible against a deep burgundy or dark red background. The person has a fair complexion, dark brown hair styled close to the head with lighter wisps at the edges, and a neutral facial expression. They wear a gray garment with a lighter gray or white collar and a dark outer piece with a decorative trim in a lighter color. The overall palette includes cream, brown, dark red, gray, black, and subtle flesh tones.
