On the reverse, on cardboard, a 20th-century ink inscription crossed out: Bohdan Chmielnicki. It is very doubtful that the identification as Chmielnicki is truthful—the physiognomy does not resemble the figure from the well-known 1651 engraving by Willem Hondius and the costume does not resemble Cossack clothing; pre-war research suggested the image may depict an unknown Turk.
