Seated, full-length turned to the right, holding a miniature of Emperor Francis I of Rome, in widow's robes—black crinoline, black veil, white cuffs, wearing white gloves. An emerald-ruby star-shaped cross on the left breast. Next to her, a brownish table with a gray-celadon top bearing a written piece of paper, a book, and a black fan; at left a column and above it a blue-gray patterned curtain. Background: gray wall decorated with stucco. Frame: gilded wood, rectangular strip, pearl ornament around, stylized roses. Date: 1750 –1850 ; Germany. Miniature, height 9.0 cm, width 7.0 cm., A painted portrait of a woman in an ornate carved frame, the frame showing gold and worn red accents with an aged patina and a small hanging loop at the top; the woman wears a blue dress with puffed sleeves that have lighter blue or white detailing, a low neckline with white lace trim, and a brown or rust-colored shawl draped over one shoulder; her hair is dark brown, styled up with curls at the sides, and adorned with a small red headpiece and a blue feather; she has a pale complexion with rosy cheeks and a neutral expression; behind her is a dark, muted background in shades of deep green and brown.
