Self-portrait in a czamara by Roman Wilczynski 1807–1857. Watercolor miniature height 15.5 cm, width 12.7 cm, dated 1842. Half-figure, three-quarter left. Dark blond hair and mustache, dark blue eyes. Wearing a dark brown cravat and scarf and a dark czamara with lighter loops; gold chain on the left breast. Background: blue sky and yellowish-gray clouds. Inscription left at the bottom: Ipse ft/Viatca 1842. On the reverse the inscription is repeated twice: Exiled painter, aquarelist / Wilczynski / self-portrait. Narrow profiled ebony strip frame, damaged. Associated with exile to Siberia and the November Uprising 1830–1831., A framed painted portrait of a man shown from the chest up against a cloudy background with pale blue and beige tones. He has light brown hair styled with a wave and a dark curled mustache, and his skin shows warm peach and beige tones. He wears a dark coat with decorative braided trim and a tied dark scarf at the neck, and several gold-colored chains drape across the front of the coat. The frame around the painting is dark brown to black.
