Portrait of Jan Witt Ivan Osipovich de Witt 1781–1840, Russian cavalry general. Painted by Józef Sonntag 1784–1834. Bust three-quarter right; dark blond hair, mustache, sideburns. He wears a navy blue staff officer’s uniform with gold epaulettes, red collar, and black scarf; the Order of St. George is shown on the left. Background: blue sky above, clouds below. Octagonal frame of gilded gilded bronze in a leather case lined with cherry-red velvet. Inscription/date: 1832, Poland. Miniature, height 7.0 cm, width 6.0 cm., A small framed portrait set into a square case with a plush velvet interior in deep burgundy surrounds an octagonal gilded frame; inside the frame is a painted bust of a man with pale skin and dark wavy hair and sideburns, a slight mustache, and a neutral expression, shown against a muted blue-gray background. He wears a dark uniform with a high red collar, ornate gold fringed epaulettes, gold buttons, and a decorative medal with gold and white elements on his chest. The frame has a brass hanging ring at the top and the case shows edges of worn brown leather.
