Four cupids crowning the initial of the Taurica prince Grigory Potemkin with garlands, below a panoply. Unknown creator; Krzeszowice Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Panoply, cupids, antiquity, initials, plants. Presumably only the reverse of the miniature has survived. It is unknown whether, apart from the lock of Potemkin's hair, there was also his portrait. As is known, the Taurica prince died near Iasi. 1800. Miniature; height 5.1 cm, width 3.8 cm., A rectangular object covered in dark brown velvety material with rounded corners and a central oval cutout revealing a small oval porcelain medallion framed by a thin gold rim; the medallion shows a sepia-toned scene of several cherubic figures in flowing poses around a central decorative oval cartouche, with soft shading and detailed line work, and visible colors include dark brown, gold, sepia brown, and off-white.
