Interior of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna?, Willibald Richter 1805–1880, painter; miniature; 1830–1840; Kraków; height 19.3 cm, width 14.3 cm, The image shows an interior scene of a richly decorated church or chapel with a tall vaulted ceiling and large leaded windows on the left letting in light. Dark wood and black architectural elements frame a central ornate altar area topped with a golden cross and a round painted medallion; the altar itself has a dome-like tabernacle and several candle stands. A carved and gilded balustrade or canopy with intricate scrollwork in gold runs vertically on the right, supported by a twisted column in warm golden and brown tones. On the left side there are sculpted statues, framed devotional images, gilded candlesticks, and decorative panels in muted grays, browns, creams, and touches of gold; a few figures dressed in dark and white garments kneel or stand near a side altar. The floor has a patterned tile design in beige and brown hues leading toward steps up to the main altar, and the whole scene is enclosed within a layered mat and frame with gray, cream, gold, and dark green borders. Colors visible include gold, black, brown, beige, gray, cream, white, and touches of red and blue.
