Half-figure, 3/4 left miniature, 1717, Germany. Silver-grey wig, blue eyes, white dress with a gold pattern trimmed at the neckline with a gold ribbon set with sapphires; sapphire coat. Gray-brown background, lightened on the right. Miniature height 6.0 cm, width 4.5 cm. Binding: richly ornamented gilded bronze., An oval miniature portrait set in an ornate gold frame suspended from a small gold loop, showing a woman with pale skin and powdered gray hair styled back with curls, wearing a low-cut pale dress with lace trim and a draped rich blue fabric over one shoulder; the frame is highly decorative with scrolling and floral motifs in gold, and the background behind the figure is a muted dark color.
