Prince Gustav Vasa born 9 November 1799 in Stockholm, died 4 August 1877 in Pillnitz, Saxony, called Prince Vasa, heir to the thrones of Sweden, Finland, Swedish Pomerania and Rügen 1799–1809, Austrian Field Marshal-Lieutenant from 1836, pretender to the throne of Sweden 1809–1872. Waist-length, 3/4 right portrait; blond hair coiffed; dark green uniform with red insets, gold epaulettes and insignia, orders and order stars; cloudy dark sky background. Inscribed/attributed: Peter, Emanuel 1799–1873 creator?; Daffinger, Moritz-Michael 1790–1849 painter. Miniature with narrow brass rim; 1850, Vienna. Height 10.6 cm, width 7.6 cm. Male sitter; soldiers Swedish uniform, fourragères; portraits up to the elbow; male portrait slightly to the right; rulers; foreign miniatures; provenance notes., A framed portrait of a young man shown from the chest up, wearing a dark military coat with gold epaulettes and gold braided cords, a red collar, and decorative medals and sashes; he has light skin, wavy light brown hair, and a small mustache, and his expression is neutral as he looks slightly to the side. The background inside the frame is a muted dark gray, and the outer frame is a weathered pale gold with a small hanging loop and ring attached at the top in darker metallic tones. Colors visible include gold, red, dark gray, pale skin tones, light brown, black, and muted blue-gray.
