Portrait of a Man in a Blue Tailcoat, Noortwyck, Frans Joseph 1767–1788 painter; miniature portrait, 1785, Germany. Bust three-quarters right; white wig with pigtail, blue eyes. Wearing white shirt collar, cravat and jabot; blue tailcoat with diamond buttons. Background dark grey, lightened near the face. Oval gold binding rim set with pearls one pearl missing, replaced by an artificial one. Height 4.8 cm, width 4.2 cm. Inscribed on right along the edge: JF / tied monogram / Noortwyck. On reverse, on a blue-gray background, a monogram of rose garlands: TUC / tied /., An oval pendant with a scalloped metallic frame in a gold tone surrounds a pale bluish-gray oval center that contains a floral garland motif made of a few delicate green leafy stems and several pink rose-like blooms with hints of darker green and muted purple, all arranged in a looping, ribbon-like pattern; the pendant has a round gold-tone loop at the top and the background around the pendant is a uniform dark gray.
