Portrait of Elzbieta Radziwill, née Szydlowiecka 1533–1562, unknown Polish painter. Oval portrait in a laurel wreath incorporated into the rectangle of the painting. In the oval: a young woman shown waist-deep, turned slightly to the left, in late Renaissance clothing: a brown beret and pearl-studded headband, a black dress with puffed sleeves decorated with longitudinal slits revealing pale red fabric, a white ruff under the chin, a wide gold necklace set with stones, a square pendant with a pearl, and a decorative cross on a chain. The face is pale, slender, with a high forehead and regular features. Red-blond hair is smoothly parted back, covering the ears and tucked into a headband. The oval background is dark brown and smooth. The oval rests on the back of a black eagle with a ducal mitre on its head, the Traby coat of arms on its chest, and the Odrowaz Szydlowiecki coat of arms in its beak. In its talons the eagle holds a white ribbon with the remains of an old inscription. The composition background is steel-gray and smooth. Dated 1733–1737. Painting; height 111 cm, width 77 cm., A painted portrait of a person shown from the chest up inside an oval frame, wearing a dark outfit with a high ruffled collar and an ornate neckpiece, a rounded headdress topped by a flat, decorated crown, and long braided or ribboned elements draped over the shoulders; the face is pale with brown hair and neutral expression. The oval frame is golden brown and set against a dark background, and there is a dark bird-like figure beneath the bust holding a medallion and a small shield. A light-colored scroll or banner runs along the bottom edge. Visible colors include dark brown, black, golden brown, pale beige, muted pink, gray, and touches of red and green.
