Behind them another seated figure in bluish clothing and a cap looks on. To the left a group of figures in muted gray and blue uniforms with ochre packs march away along a path. In the midground under the trees a glowing area suggests a small fire with standing and seated figures in soft pastel tones. The palette includes blues, grays, browns, ochre, green, and touches of reddish and pinkish hues.
