Christ Appearing to Mary, Bartholomäus Bruyn 1493–c.1555, German painting, religious/biblical scene depicting Mary mother of Jesus and the Resurrected Christ, interiors, crosses attribute. Painted c.1515–1525. Painting with frame: height 71 cm, width 35 cm., A vertical painted scene framed by a wooden border shows an interior with a tiled floor in shades of green and gray, a large draped canopy in green with a red border, and a bed with red upholstery and a pale pillow. On the left, a kneeling woman with pale skin and long blond hair peeking from under a white head covering wears a deep blue robe and has her hands clasped in front of a wooden lectern with carved panels and an open book. On the right, a standing man with pale skin, shoulder-length brown hair, and a short beard is draped in a flowing red cloth that reveals part of his torso; he holds a tall staff topped with a cross-like element adorned with a pink and white banner, and he makes a raised gesture with his other hand. Both figures have halos suggested by radiating lines, and the background behind them is dark. Colors visible include green, red, blue, white, brown, pink, gray, pale skin tones, and gold accents.
