The Battle of Oliwa, November 28, 1627, Nalecz, Wlodzimierz Jan 1865–1946, painter; 1927, painting, height 92 cm, width 141 cm, A painted scene shows a group of large sailing ships on a choppy sea, their tall masts and billowing sails in shades of beige, tan, and muted brown, with some sails appearing darker olive and green. Several ships display flowing red ribbons or banners, and a few banners in pale blue tones. The ships have ornate sterns with visible decoration in green, red, and gold hues, and dark hulls ranging from deep brown to black. White and gray smoke or spray rises around some vessels, and a few small rowboats with figures are in the water near the ships; the rowboats are painted in muted greens and browns and the figures wear darker clothing in blue and brown tones. The sky is overcast in gray and pale taupe, and the sea is rendered in various greens, blues, and grays with white highlights on the waves. A narrow wooden frame in reddish-brown surrounds the image.
