Jewel box, pietra dura technique. Jewel box made of blackened wood, partly ebony, cuboid with chamfered corners supported on four gilded bronze volute legs decorated with a mascaron at the base. The edge of the base and the edge of the lid have profiled ebony strips. Decorated on the side walls with six mosaic reserves and one plaque on the lid: on the front and back two panels decorated with two fruits on a branch; on the sides one panel each with three fruits on a branch and an insect at the bottom. In the corners are cast gilded bronze garlands topped with medusa masks decorated with plastic fruits made of semi-precious stones 7 pieces each. The hinged, profiled lid is decorated with a large plate with three fruits on branches tied with a sash, above them an insect; side walls decorated with gilded bronze garlands with plastic fruits; corners with gilded bronze shells; front with a preserved key hole. Dated to the early 18th century 18th century, possibly Florence, Italy. Chest, height 34.5 cm, width 41.5 cm, depth 50.5 cm., A decorative box sits on a neutral gray surface, featuring a dark polished wooden body with ornate gold-colored metal mounts and feet; the top is inset with a framed panel bordered in gold and blue containing small rounded cabochon-like stones in pale pink, lavender, and white, surrounded by painted imagery; a garland of carved and polished stones in shades of purple, red, pink, orange, green, and white winds around the top edges and corners, accompanied by gold leaf and scroll motifs; the sides have framed panels with dark backgrounds and pale rounded stone insets set against painted elements, and gold leafy appliqués adorned with multicolored polished stones hang from the corners; overall colors visible include dark brown or black wood, gold, blue, purple, red, pink, orange, green, white, and pale lavender.
