Kuan-type vase with cover, Bielino faience manufactory 1779–1800; attributed to Karol Wolff fl. ca 1800. Chinoiserie, Chinese/Far Eastern motifs; Warsaw faience; unknown provenance. Low kuan-type vase in the shape of a bulging baluster with a cylindrical neck and a low domed cover with an acorn-shaped handle. Chocolate background with gold-painted scene: fragment of a garden with two chrysanthemum bushes, a peony bush, a palm tree, a rice fence, and a Chinese man with a bag and a walking stick. Thin plant twig around the neck and a painted flowered branch on the lid. Late 18th century, Warsaw, Poland. Vessel: height 19.5 cm; diameter 13.5 cm. Lid: height 7.5 cm; diameter 10.5 cm., A dark, rounded ceramic lid with a small knob handle sits centered against a pale gray background, the lid showing a glossy deep blue-black surface with worn areas and decorative gold-painted leaf and petal motifs along its dome and rim, and a narrow flaring edge that transitions into a short cylindrical base with a slightly uneven bottom; visible colors include dark blue-black, gold, and pale gray.
