Snuffbox tin, Königliche Porzellan-Fabrique, Meissen 1710–1763. Tall rectangular snuffbox with rounded corners, flatly arched lid bound in metal gilt silver? on hinges. Around the edges of the side walls, lid and bottom are gilded rocaille frames for colorful miniatures with animal fairy tales: 1 a squirrel and a pug in a bonnet and cape, smoking pipes and drinking coffee, with a landscape and architecture in the background; 2 a dog as a hunter, with a pipe and two hares on a leash, landscape background; 3 drunken animals feasting at a table with a pulled tablecloth: a goose, a wild boar, and a fox, landscape background; 4 a parrot on a pole beside a cage, landscape background. In the reserves on the side walls are miniature landscapes by the water. Inside the lid is a colorful miniature portrait of a young lady in a cape, half-length, against beige drapery obscuring a column; painted in pastel colors in a pointillist style. Dated to the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, Saxony, Meissen porcelain. Function: snuffbox. Dimensions: height 5.3 cm, width 9 cm, depth 6.4 cm., A small rectangular box with an open lid showing an interior painted scene of a person in light clothing against a draped backdrop; the lid edge is metallic with a slightly worn finish. The exterior of the box is white porcelain decorated with gilded scrollwork and painted scenes featuring a squirrel and a small animal in a landscape, with touches of brown, purple, pink, green, gold, and gray; the box sits on a reflective gray surface and the overall background is a uniform gray.
