Snuffbox tin, Koenigliche Porzellan Manufaktur KPM; Berlin; 1763–1918. Snuffbox in the form of a rectangular box with a slightly arched lid, framed in gilded bronze, with a plant ornament around the outer edge of the lid and a lock, on hinges. Around the edge of the lid and the side walls of the tin there is a relief with rocaille and floral motifs. On the lid, the bottom of the base and each of the side walls are painted with colorful fruit and floral compositions including blackcurrant, fig, mirabelle plum or redcurrant and plums. Inside the lid is a painted composition of a bouquet of flowers in a cup-shaped brown vase on a stone tabletop with fruit and a sprig of raspberry flowers; on the edge of the tabletop a small bird sparrow? nibbling a leaf, above two butterflies flying. Ca. 1765–1770. Porcelain haberdashery snuffbox. Germany, Berlin. Height 3.2 cm; width 8.3 cm; depth 6 cm., A small rectangular trinket box sits centered against a gray background, with a white porcelain body and a slightly domed lid decorated with painted floral and fruit motifs in colors including orange, yellow, green, purple, and red; the lid and upper edge are framed with an ornate metallic band in a brass or gold tone, and the porcelain surface shows subtle raised decorative patterns and glossy reflections.
